Leadership CompetenciesWhat are Leadership Competencies? Leadership competency is your ability to lead others to accomplish a goal. Aligning, setting direction, motivating is commonly associated with leadership. Project leadership competency is leading in a project environment that poses significant authority and credibility challenges. Project leadership competency includes personal and project management competencies. Personal competence is an integration of a practitioner’s behavioral qualities that flow outward and attitudinal qualities that flow inward that effect how one works with others. Project manager competence is project management and project context knowledge, skills, experiences that effect how well a project manager executes project management related activities. Project leader competence includes more than just project and contextual knowledge, skills, experiences and ones innate abilities to work with others, but is ones ability to lead others in the project environment. For project management to fulfill its promise to stakeholders, project leadership competence must become a distinct component of competency, in addition to personal competence, project management competence. |
